This chapter aims to connect the digital resources of knowledge with the historical and cultural heritage in the context of smart cities. Speciically, combining the joint intervention in the Real Sitio of El Pardo and Aranjuez, as well as the Foundation Square of the University of Alcalá, both in Spain. Through traditional historical research and the innovative use of new technologies like augmented reality (AR), a historical, biological and cultural heritage is conserved, consisting of forests, gardens, agricultural spaces, urban centers and palatial residences. Cultural and artistic heritage is a resource of the irst magnitude for the sustainable development of smart cities. It evolves with time and society; it is this that determines what goods are to be conserved and protected for posterity, according to the values atributed to them. Hence, the importance of achieving an awareness in society plays an active part in the conservation, enjoyment and dissemination of heritage. In this context, the augmented reality is presented as a powerful tool for contextualizing and disseminating the heritage, as well as to make the resources created more accessible, making an innovative use of the new technologies applied to the transfer of knowledge and the enhancement of a country's cultural and historical heritage.

Previous desk studies to any restoration should have a prominent role in any work carried out with dignity. The work of graphic documentation has traditionally been complicated by the difficulty of access to documents, their treatment and their condition. So in many cases their contribution has been lower than it would have been desirable. Now with the cheapening of new reproductive technologies and the ability to hang on the Internet opens up new possibilities for works of graphic documentation hitherto undeveloped. Entities such as the BNF of Paris, the BNE of Madrid, the RABASF are turning their documentary network funds that are available to all researchers with a quality and very high potential, which result in an improvement of the work of restoration of a definitively. But not only access to documentation, has improved but the possibility of applying augmented reality tools or recognition of images (patterns) for processing and comparison are the future of graphic documentation centers we want to show in this communication

When a relatively new building is not being fully utilized there must have existed, at one time,a change in its initial conditions. Our aim is to study thechanges in the initial conditions which cause buildings to be underutilized and analyze whether the demolition was justified. In this article we provide guidelines demonstrating how buildings of a past generation which were initially considered obsolete can be properly reused.

The Treaty of Alonso de Vandelvira had a significant influence in the Spanish and Andalusia Renaissance architecture. The study of two domes attributed to Andrés de Vandelvira, Alonso's father, brings us closer to better understand the treaty and see what relationship existed between the theoretical postulates developed in the treaty and the actual construction practice in the sixteenth century. The domes of San Salvador from Úbeda and San Sebastián to Alcaraz, attributed both to Vandelvira father, can be studied directly from the model la Capilla redonda por cruceros of the treaty and compare the preference between them. This comparison is done from the assumptions of the design and construction process. In conclusion, differences and coincidences between praxis and theory in these Spanish Renaissance works.
